Alice Springs Hotel Guide & Local Info
Alice Springs, commonly known to locals as “Alice” or “the Alice” is the third largest town in the Northern Territory and is located almost in the center of Australia. Alice Springs is one of the most famous towns in the Australian “Outback” and it is surrounded by hundreds of miles of dry red sand desert. Some of the main attractions in Alice include the MacDonnell Ranges and the Simpson Desert, both of which offer outdoor hiking “bush walking” and biking activities. There are also plenty of hot air balloon excursions as well as swimming holes and rafting options along the main river. The N’Dhala Gorge is a naturally shaded site which contains over 6,000 prehistoric rock carvings, art and shelter sites, as well as an abundance of rare plants. Be sure to also visit Arltunga, which is an old ghost town that was one of the sites of the Australian gold rush in the 1930s.
